I've been to the Adobe CS5 Launch Event past thursday to see what it's all about.
And I gotta say, the event was really cool. Photoshop CS5 is all about using the given resources of your pc and breaking all speed limits.
But there are also some new features embedded into the programmes themselves of course.
One is the so called bristle brush, which can be used very effectively.
It's a very amazing new tool that simulates a real bristle brush (hence the given name).
And you can even decide on the length, the thickness of the bristles and so on for yourself.
But one feature they have decided to build in that cooperates with the bristle brush, is one to simulate an oil canvas.
Sounds pretty cool, huh? I thought so, too.
And before the event about the bristle brush started, they showed the audience various artworks in a slideshow.
I thought that they were all painted from scratch. Turned out that they were just smeared photos.
If the oil canvas feature is turned on, your brush will absorb some of the colour of your canvas and use it to paint the next stroke.
The way it was used in the images in the slide show and during the event itself, it's nothing more than an advanced smudge tool to make a smudged photo look more like an oil painting. Which is quite a shame, in my opinion.
Watch a demonstration of that brush here:
